Day on the Farm is an event at Knigge Farms in Omro that the Berlin FFA sets up for Clay Lamberton students once a year. This year, Day on the Farm was on Friday, May 15. The event is meant to showcase animals to the kids and teach them about all the different animals and equipment a farm has.
“In the morning, we had first graders come out. They attended our nine stations, which are the free stall barn and feed, milker station, tractor equipment, calf barn, bunnies, baby chicks, ducks, one sheep and a goat. We had a break for lunch to calm down, then the fourth graders came,” agriculture teacher Melissa Miller said.

Some of the FFA members brought their own animals to present to the elementary students and teach the kids the different things to know about each animal and why it’s important.
“Members who bring animals get first dibs to talk about their own animals, and then we had kids who had never presented an animal before present, so they could learn the process of talking about an animal,” Miller said.
Keeping the elementary students safe and on task was also important, as they were around heavy equipment and animals, so other members of FFA helped with the kids’ safety.
“I was a group leader during the day, so I made sure the kids got to each station safely and on time,” freshman Danica Schuelke said.
Day on the Farm has been happening for a long time, but it wasn’t always at Knigge Farms. It had actually been hosted before in the grass at the back of the high school, and there would be fewer animals present.
“I remember going to the grass every year in elementary school; it was always fun,” junior Francesca Sahotsky said.
It’s a fun day for everyone, not just the elementary kids, but also for the high school students, as it gives them a new experience.
“My favorite part of the day was getting to see the farm and getting out of school to be with friends,” Schuelke said.
