Online safety in the world today is a major concern as nearly everyone uses technology on a daily basis. With many great things comes negatives. In the case of the internet it is dangers like hackers, viruses, scammers, amongst other things. In order to use the internet effectively one must know how to use it safely.

Staying safe online in today’s world is no easy task.  The internet at times can be a very scary place due to the fact users have no way of knowing what person might be using it on the other end.

“I think one of the scariest things to me is the fact that a child predator could be looking at my or anyone else’s content and I wouldn’t know,” junior Ella Resop said.

Staying safe online is a must for anyone who uses technology. One of the easiest yet most effective ways of staying safe is setting a strong and reliable password. According to Google support, a good password does not contain any personal information like a nickname, animal or birthday. They recommend using something that is longer yet more memorable like a quote, a phrase from a song or a passage from a book.

Students also have advice to give about online safety. Sophomore IvyLynn Friday-Hansen has advice for anyone that plans on using the internet.

“Try not to talk to strangers or people you don’t know on a personal level because you never really know who you might be talking to on the other end,” Friday-Hansen said.

There’s always something that can be done to make using the internet a more fun yet safer place for everyone.

“There are always people looking for easy ways to steal your identity. It’s up to you to educate yourself about online identity theft and how to prevent and protect yourself,” business education teacher Charles Thibodeaux said.
