Teachers’ Pets: Holiday Edition
December 16, 2022
Harmony (left) and Melody (right)
Owner: Spanish Teacher Jody Ziemann
Kind of Pet: Calico Cats
What is the worst thing that your pet has done during the holidays? “Both cats like to bat at the ornaments hanging on the tree or stand on their back paws and shake the branches until an ornament drops. Then, either the ornament has broken when it fell, or they play soccer throughout the house with the ornament until it hits the wall and breaks. It’s a good thing they are so cute! Melody also climbs the ladder when we are decorating and also tries to remove the light strings. We almost fell over when we saw her at the top of the ladder the first time. We aren’t sure she knows how to get down since she just meows until one of us carries her down,” Ziemann said.
Fiyero
Owner: Art Teacher Angela Breunig
Kind of Pet: Chihuahua, Miniature Schnauzer, and Pomeranian mix
What is the worst thing that your pet has done during the holidays? “Every year for Christmas he usually gets some kind of new Christmas treat. Well, some just don’t agree with his stomach-and within an hour or so, they were thrown up!” Breunig said.
Maz
Owner: Band Teacher Ben Ruetten
Kind of Pet: French Bulldog
What is the worst thing that your pet has done during the holidays? “We have a lot of Scandinavian decorations and stuff due to our family history. As we were getting decorations out she found them and ran off with them. She didn’t hurt them at all, but we have them elevated out of her reach now,” Ruetten said.
Emmett
Owner: School Social Worker Carrie McCarthy
Kind of Pet: Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
What is the worst thing that your pet has done during the holidays? “One year, our ‘Elf on the Shelf’ was hidden too low in our house. Emmett saw the elf as a toy and chewed part of it up,” McCarthy said.
Mona (below) and Tryton (above)
Owner: English Learner Teacher Laura Dominguez
Kind of Pet: Shih Tzu and Pitbull
What is the worst thing that your pet has done during the holidays? “Tryton the pitbull likes to ‘help’ open presents. In reality, he just slobbers on the boxes,” Dominguez said.
