Agriculture students clean up school garden

FFA leader and agricultural science teacher Melissa Miller and her students take action with the empty overgrown plot on the west side of Berlin High School. Future improvements have been planned and will take place soon.  “I want all teachers and students to be able to utilize the space as an outdoor classroom,’’ Miller said.

Senior Callie Kurczek gives blood on Feb. 26 during the Key Club blood drive. Only 19 people donated blood during the drive. “The first time is a little nerve-wracking, but after you do it, it’s a good feeling to know that you’re helping people,” Kurczek said.
Blood drive faces low numbers
Recently the club has had an increase in membership allowing them to do more activities/competitions. “Forensics is a public speaking competition, with a variety of presentation choices like different types of acting, informational speech, storytelling, and even debate and radio announcing are categories,” social studies teacher Ryan Scanlan said.

The Magoosh software plays a video explaining a practice problem. “There is a lot of clarification on different styles of questions that the students will see,” ACT prep adviser Matt Willett said.

BHS begins production of "Kodachrome"
Junior Meradeth Reinsbach signs her name on the whiteboard after her interview for Youth of the Year. Reinsbach won Tri-county Youth of the Year award and now will compete state wide. “Mrs. Eydie was the main person that wanted me to try out for Youth of the Year, and Mrs. Pollesch also was a big help in the whole process,” Reinsbach said.
Reinsbach named Youth of the Year
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction gave the high school an overall score of 56.9. “There’s a lot of chatter out there for some that are kind of negative about our schools or negative about our community,” Superintendent Dr. Emmet Durtschi said, “And I would challenge them all to think about what we can do together to actually make it better, instead of just pointing fingers.”
