On November 6, a section of Drawing and Painting students and Spanish 4 and 5 students were given the opportunity to go to Ripon and view a pop up gallery by an artist named Dick Folse. Art teacher Angela Breunig and Spanish teacher Dr. Jody Ziemann were advisers for the trip.
“We went to Ripon simply because the artist Dick Folse reached out to us and invited us to bring students to see his work,” Breunig said. “He was willing to give us a guided tour as well as do an art demonstration.”
According to Breunig, they brought a section of Drawing and Painting students and Spanish 4 and 5 students to see Folse’s art because Folse’s works were abstract paintings of Spain. Students went on this trip during the school day, but returned in time to eat lunch at the school.
“I’ve been taking art classes for a long time now, probably since seventh grade,” junior Julianna Plantz said. “There are more art opportunities here in Berlin.”
The art trip gave students the opportunity to envision themselves doing art as a career, according to Plantz.
“Art trips are very valuable,” Plantz said. “We get to see different art techniques and it allows students to envision themselves doing art in the future or even going to Ripon college.”
Going on the trip also allowed for students to look at different artistic techniques they have not covered or looked at during class.
“I really enjoy art,” senior November Mankowski said. “I think it’s really important to learn about different art styles.”
Art and Spanish students also have an annual trip that they take during March to the Milwaukee Art Museum.
