Wrestler junior Donavin Lemke came first place in the tournament in Wisconsin Dells on Jan. 27.
Head Coach Beau Yineman in practice likes to watch replays and explain the team’s weaknesses and strengths. Sometimes the coach works with individuals after practice.
Senior Alivia Davey helps her team by being encouraging and helping with her experience.
“As a senior, I think definitely put your effort into it. The more you put in the effort; the more you’ll get the results you want,” Davey said.
Yineman says he feels as if sophomore Jakob Martin has stepped up as a captain. Other wrestlers also mention the help Martin has given them.
“Jakob Martin has helped me with my form and technique,” sophomore Kenneth Turner said.
Yineman mentions throughout the season he has seen the team getting better with every practice and every competition. Most of the wrestlers have little experience which Yineman says is actually a blessing in disguise. It’s helping them create good habits and techniques to be successful as they develop.
“If we can retain the athletes we have, I can only see improvement for these individuals as we go into the end of this season and next season,” Yineman said.
Their next meet is the ECC Tournament at Waupun on Friday.
