Food Review: Starbucks holiday drinks
December 1, 2020
Each year, the global coffee chain Starbucks comes out with signature drinks for the holiday season. Popular with multitudes of people, many look forward to drinking the festive beverages. These drinks include the reoccurring Peppermint Mocha, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, and the Eggnog Latte, any of which can be made hot, iced, or as a frappuccino.
The Peppermint Mocha is on its 18th year at Starbucks, clearly a favorite of the public. The popular holiday drink is made with Starbucks espresso, steamed milk, sweet mocha sauce and peppermint-flavored syrup, topped off with whipped cream and dark chocolate curls. The peppermint is very evident as well as the mocha flavor. This drink is great when looking for a chocolatey coffee-drink with a balanced, fresh taste of peppermint, earning a 4/5 rating.

The Toasted White Chocolate Mocha is made with espresso, steamed milk, and flavors of caramelized white chocolate mocha sauce. It is topped off with whipped cream, holiday sugar sparkles, and crispy white pearls that add a little crunch, making it the perfect drink for a cold winter day. While the White Chocolate Mocha is a favorite year-round, this holiday drink truly does taste toasted for the wintertime. The Toasted White Chocolate Mocha is enough to put anyone in the holiday spirit, earning a 5/5 rating.

The Caramel Brulee Latte incorporates espresso, steamed milk, rich caramel brulee sauce and is topped with whipped cream and caramel brulee topping. A brulee is a scorched cream dessert with hardened caramelized sugar on top, a flavor that is mimicked quite well with the Caramel Brulee Latte drink. If someone is looking for a not-too-sweet yet still delicious drink, the Caramel Brulee Latte is a great choice earning 4.5/5 rating.

The Chestnut Praline Latte is the least-sweet of the five holiday drinks, made with espresso, steamed milk and flavors of caramelized chestnuts and spices. It is topped with whipped cream and spiced praline crumbs. There is an apparent chestnut flavor in the drink mixed with a rich coffee taste as well. Despite being less sweet than the other annual drinks, the Chestnut Praline Latte is still a satisfactory choice for the holiday season earning a 5/5 rating.

The last, but certainly not least, of the Starbucks holiday beverages is the Eggnog Latte. This drink is made with rich, steamed eggnog, and espresso topped with a sprinkle of ground nutmeg. While eggnog is a signature holiday drink for many regardless, the Eggnog Latte takes it to the next level. The consistency of the drink is creamy and smooth, and the hot temperature makes it perfect for the chilly weather. The Eggnog Latte is the ultimate holiday drink easily earning 5/5 rating.
