After a rough season and some low numbers, the baseball team won 18-2 against Randolph on Friday, and 12-2 against Tri County at home on May 14.
“We have played 17 total games this season with a record of 6-11, 3 of those wins being conference wins. We have had many good games and some not so good,” sophomore Royce Lichtenberg said. “When everyone does their job, it rubs off on the rest of the team and we play well. When we make simple mistakes, that rubs off on us as well and that’s how we have bad games.”
Junior Kale Bending pitched five innings against Tri County.
“I pitched about five innings and that’s pretty normal for me,” Bending said. “I think I pitched pretty well and I mean we won, so overall the team did a good job that night.”
The team has 12 players, enough for a full roster but not enough for a JV team. The team consists of only five upperclassmen.
“Our team is very young, just practicing and playing will improve how they play. But we will lose three seniors which will hurt for next year,” Head Coach Mike Webb said. “My hope is we will have more freshmen coming out next season to replace the seniors, but we will be even younger, and it will be harder to compete. However, we will work to improve and try to win as many games as possible.”
Due to unstable weather conditions, many games have been rescheduled throughout the season. Because of this, the team has had to play a few double headers, or back to back games.
“We have had to cancel a few games this season so far. Our games against Wautoma and Manawa will not be rescheduled. We also had to play a double header at home against Ripon and another double header in Plymouth,” Lichtenberg said.
The team’s final regular season game is tonight against Laconia at home.
