‘Inception’ stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Dominick “Dom” Cobb, a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious of his targets. To get back to his children without a target on his head Cobb must complete his mission to implant an idea into someone else’s subconscious. ‘Inception’ is not like any other movies. It’s very complex and takes some attention to watch and understand.
A man named Saito hires Cobb to implant the idea that Robert Fischer wants to dismantle his father’s million dollar energy company after he inherits it. This way Saito will be the largest energy company with no other competition. ‘Inception’ is very fast paced and filled with action, but also has a background love-story that ends in tragedy.
Adding to the complexity of implanting an idea into someone else’s head, Cobb must also deal with his subconscious version of his wife trying to sabotage everything in the dream world. His solution to that problem is to not know any specific details while in the dreams. These dream landscapes that they are in when broken down look like a maze. Many hiding places with twists and turns, making Inception have both impossible and possible aspects in them. This is something that grabs the viewer’s attention even more.
To keep his wife from sabotaging anything, Cobb puts together a team of experts to help, an architect named Ariadne to make the landscape in the dream, a chemist named Yusuf, and Arthur, Eames, and Saito to help along the way. Yusuf creates a sedative strong enough to keep them all under while in the dream, but still slightly aware of what is happening in reality.
One of the things about ‘Inception’ that was kind of annoying was that it was hard to tell when they were in the dream world or in reality.
In the movie, being in a dream is very complex and there are rules that should be followed. As the movie goes on Ariadne creates different levels in a dream, or like a dream within a dream that they all have to go through in order to implant the idea. They face challenges and obstacles along the way.
Overall the movie was not at all what I was expecting it to be, but in a good way. It has all the elements that I look for and like in a movie: romance, action, a strong female character, and some fiction. Rating: 4/5.
