This year, Homecoming started earlier than usual. The early start came with both pros and cons for the students and staff of BHS.
A big positive of Homecoming starting early was that it allowed students to get into the swing of things and get used to school really quickly while raising school spirits through the fun activities. It allowed students to feel more school spirit and therefore enjoy school much more than they usually do. It was also a good opportunity for freshmen to see just what Homecoming could be like, especially with the dance and game that came alongside it.
However, there were also a lot of negatives that came with Homecoming starting early. It was difficult for clubs in charge of Homecoming to meet and properly plan everything for Homecoming due to how quickly it started. It also gave students less to look forward to in October and could keep students from fully getting back into the regular routine of school and classes due to the schedule change during Homecoming. It could also be difficult for teachers to properly plan and accommodate for these changes, since they also had less time to prepare for the chaotic Homecoming schedule.
Overall, Homecoming is an amazing opportunity for students to feel more school spirit and enjoy school. However, it can also be difficult to accommodate for the strange Homecoming schedule with such short notice. The Red ‘n’ Green feels that the early beginning for Homecoming had both its positives and negatives.
