On November 8th the winners for the 10th annual Short Story Contest were announced at Berlin High School. First place went to senior Arianna McCormick who won 30 dollars for her story “The Great Beyond”.
“I initially had no clue what I wanted to write about this year,” McCormick said. “But after brainstorming for a while, I ended up listening to a song that made me really emotional. I decided that, after listening to it for a while, I should write a story based around that song.”
This year’s second place winner was freshman Ewan Steffen with his short story “The Alpines” winning 20 dollars, and third place went to junior Tasi Ana Sanchez with her story “What Do You Bury with a Dead Child?”
All together there were 5 short story entrees this year for the contest. The contest was advertised for about a month allowing students the time to figure out what they wanted to write about and write it out. But because the Short Story Contest is an annual thing, there really was no limit to when you could start writing.
Congratulations to the winners from the Red ‘n’ Green.
