Q & A: Prom 2025
Freshman Ella Spitler practices for State Solo and Ensemble. Spitler has practiced her piece, a composition in C major by Georg Philipp Telemann, many times in preparation for state. “I like my song because it was a challenge and I like pushing myself,” Spitler said.

According to Superintendent Dr. Emmett Durtschi, the above graphic shows the numbers Berlin Area School District is facing in the upcoming school year. These numbers are related to necessary budget cuts for the 2025-26 school year.
Budget cuts lead to reductions in staff
Left to right: Wordsmiths adviser Andrew Reise, freshman Connor Emerson, freshman Ewan Steffen, choir director Abbe Lane, and band director Ben Ruetten. Emerson and Steffen won the songwriting contest, hosted by the Wordsmiths of Berlin, with their entry titled “Colorblind.” Together they won a $45 prize (or $22.50 each).

Freshman Selci Sirrell glides around a barrel on her Quarter horse, Zoey. Sirrell attends country-wide competitions under barrel racing, causing her to travel often. “Getting to go on trips to like different states and stuff, getting to do bigger shows is really fun,” Sirrell said.

Freshman Selci Sirrell jumps over the bar at Ripon College on April 4. At an earlier meet in Ripon College on March 20 she broke the 5’3.5” record of Berlin High School that was set in 1996. Sirrell’s record is now 5’7”.
