Occasionally, new students from different countries will come to Berlin for a school year to experience American high school. This is an excellent opportunity for all of the students at BHS to learn about other cultures.
One important aspect of the foreign exchange program is that the students coming to BHS have an opportunity to experience American culture and school. Being surrounded by students that have been at BHS their whole lives brings forth an opportunity to learn about what BHS is like and what differs between cultures. While the main difference is likely schooling, there are also key differences such as food, clothing, and respect.
It also provides an opportunity for students at BHS that have never experienced or learned about other cultures to get a taste of those different cultures. Through listening to music or trying out food from these different cultures, students at BHS all benefit from the foreign exchange program. It allows all students to experience a new culture in some form.
Overall, The Red ‘n’ Green feels that the foreign exchange program provides wonderful opportunities for students at BHS to learn about different cultures and experience them firsthand. It is a welcome program that should always be available at BHS.
