Freshmen Ewan Steffen and Connor Emerson entered the song writing contest together hosted by the Wordsmiths of Berlin and took home first place together, being the only submission in the contest.
“I haven’t been writing music for very long, probably about a year,” Steffen said. “Submitting again is definitely a possibility.”
Steffen and Emerson’s song is titled “Colorblind,” and focuses on facing problems in life. Steffen thought it would be interesting to mix their interests together into one song.
“I chose to write with another person so we could share different ideas, like lyrics, and just to have fun with my friend,” Emerson said. “I hope to write more music, especially with Ewan in the future.”
Both Steffen and Emerson were surprised and excited to hear that they’d won the contest. They were also surprised by the low number of entries, theirs being the only submission. Overall, they both say they hope to submit more in the future and continue writing music.
“I’m really happy with how the song turned out, and a shoutout to my partner and the GOAT Ewan for helping write and record a lot of the song,” Emerson said.
