Despite the inclement weather conditions the golf team won the regional game with a score of 342. The team is now moving on to sectionals today at Crystal Springs in Seymour.
“The match went very well as we won regionals; it was tough with the rain,” junior Cayson Starks said, who placed second at regionals.
The players entered the season with a fierce attitude looking to give it their all, and advance further than last year.
“This season I feel like the majority of the players came into the season prepared to compete, compared to last year where we had a slow start to the season,” assistant coach Steven Klika said.
Not only was their attitude up, but so was their dedication to perfecting aspects of their play.
“There was hardly a time that the players did not go play extra after practice; they pushed each other to practice more and become better players,” Klika said.
All of the extra time and practice they put in proved to help them in the regional game.
“I was constantly making adjustments, just changing my aim to fit how the rain would affect me,” Starks said.
Not only did the extra work help them improve, but it also helped them have confidence in what they were doing during the match.
“I’m going to play the same way I have been, just not changing anything,” sophomore Hudson Masters said, who placed first at the regional meet.
As the team heads to sectionals,, the players are taking it one step at a time by focusing on the match ahead of them.
“My mindset is just looking at the next match. I don’t want to get too ahead,” Starks said.
