Last school year, administration surveyed students about the decision to change Homecoming from in-formal to semi-formal. The vote ended in favor of the change.
“They did a survey, It ended up being over 60% wanting it to be formal,” Key Club adviser Andrea Woyak said.
With the change, the Homecoming dance was moved to Saturday, October 11, the day after the football game.
“It was just moved to a Saturday because of the game on Friday to give people time to get ready,” Woyak said.
Though the change was made to make the dance semi-formal, Woyak is planning to keep the cost of attending the same.
“I think it was $10 (to attend), and I don’t plan to change it,” Woyak said.
Because the dance is semi-formal, Key club will need to determine a theme and plan for decorations.
“I think our setup process will be pretty much the same, but I think we will still have plenty of decorations just like we did in years past,” Key Club president Gwendolyn Bruce-DeMuri said.
The change also given students opportunities to rewear outfits.
“I already have a dress that I got for Winterfest that didn’t work out,” senior Lauren Werch said.
The student body has varying opinions on the decision.
“I’m really excited about it. I think it’s going to be really fun for upperclassmen to have three formal dances and for freshmen and sophomores to have two formal dances,” Bruce-DeMuri said.
While some students are looking forward to the semi-formal dance, others have doubts about the change.
“I don’t think it is a good idea this year because there is a swim meet and a volleyball tournament that Saturday,” senior Taylor Helmuth said.
Others are looking forward to the event.
“I’m super excited about it. I have always wanted a formal Homecoming. I love getting fancy. I think it’s really fun to take pictures with your friends, go out to dinner. Like the whole scene of it is really fun,” Bruce-DeMuri said.
