At the end of last school year, Principal Bryant Bednarek hired Shelby Schultz, a new graduate from UW-LaCrosse, as a social studies teacher. After weeks of summer training for her new position, she was ready to begin her first year of teaching.
“Summer training was awesome, absolutely incredible. Everyone was insanely helpful, super kind, and patient,” Schultz said.
Becoming a new teacher comes with many new and unfamiliar things. This unfamiliarity can lead to fears for the teacher.
“It can be easy for new teachers to be overwhelmed,” Schultz said.
However, fears are not the only things that appear with this new chapter in her life, Schultz says she is excited to meet everyone.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone. It has already been great,
but there are so many people I don’t know yet,” Schultz said.
In the eyes of her department chair, Jennifer Leahy, Schultz is adjusting nicely.
“Ms. Schultz is transitioning well. She fits in well with the rest of the staff, and students seem to like her,” Leahy said.
Many things stand out about Schultz, one being her kindness.
“She is patient with us. When people are talking, she doesn’t just get worked up about it,” sophomore Grace Neubauer said.
Outside the classroom, Schultz enjoys spending her time outside or listening to music.
“I love music, whether it is listening or going to concerts. Being outdoors is a huge hobby of mine,” Shultz said.
Outside of school, Schultz has an interesting family. Other than her mother and father, Shultz has a twin sister.
“I have a twin sister. Her name is Jolene, like the song,” Schultz said.
Even though she is new to the school, she is not alone. Schultz has the support of her fellow teachers every day.
“At the end of the day during my prep hour, I have at least three teachers coming into my room just to see how I’m doing personally, as well if there is anything they can do to help prep my classes or just getting familiar with the area,” Schultz said.
