As the semester passes its halfway point, the mental health of students comes to mind. With three-quarters of the school year over, students have been through a lot.
“This year has been a rollercoaster, but we are going back up now,” senior Royce Lichtenberg said.
Students are subject to many stressors throughout their classes and school-related activities such as homework, sports, and extracurriculars during the year.
“The workload can get to be a lot with sports and music and all the extracurriculars that I do,” junior Gwedolyn Bruce-Demuri said.
Despite these stressors, some students have reported that their mental health is excellent.
“My mental health has been good. I feel like I’m doing well in my classes,” senior Eric Dahnke said.
Students agree not only that the semester has fostered good mental health, but the school year has as well.
“The year as a whole has had a lot less stress and more time to enjoy,” senior Dierks Martin said.
During the semester, some students have been trying to stay mentally healthy, and keep their stressors to a minimum.
“My cortisol is low, and there’s no stress in my view,” Lichtenberg said.
With seniors being in the home stretch of their high school career, the fourth quarter is invigorating for many.
“I’m excited about the end of my senior year; I’m just having fun and enjoying it,” Martin said.
