The boys basketball team won their home opener against the Wautoma Hornets with a score of 73-60 on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The team is 2-0 this season after also defeating Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Senior Conner Batley had 17 points to help lead the team in scoring.

We played well and everyone shared the ball as points were very spread out. Aaron definitely stuck out. He played very well, saw the floor and was able to get to the right spots to score,” Batley said.

Sophomore Aaron Bartol was not only the team’s leading scorer, but also led with four steals. Bartol was a key to the team’s success with others being out due to early fouls.

I feel good about how I played, with Brock being in foul trouble I knew someone had to put points on the board and the shots were just falling for me,” Bartol said.

Head Coach Jeremy Mercer says that he was happy to get an early win, but knows there are tougher opponents ahead like Winneconne.

“For Friday we need to make sure we take care of the ball on offense. Limiting turnovers will be a big key against Winneconne,” Mercer said.

The game Friday night is the first conference matchup of the season. With the momentum of the past two games, they are poised to capture another win.

“I like to view every game as important; however, this one feels a little bigger because it’s our conference opener against a team who has quickly become a rival of ours,” Mercer said.
