Senior Mataya Raisleger entered the song writing contest hosted by the Wordsmiths of Berlin, she won first place.
“I was surprised to hear the announcements and find out I was the only one that submitted a song,” Raisleger said.
For the contest students could write a song about anything they wanted to.
“The song is about the bond with my sisters. We are basically best friends so I just wanted to write a song about them and the love I have for them,” Raisleger said.
Raisleger also said she wanted feedback from people who are smarter in music to help her improve. She said already had the song written prior to entering the contest.
“My favorite part of the song is the beginning part where I put in voice memos of me and my sisters talking. I really like that aspect of it,” Raisleger said.
Raisleger won a $40 cash prize for her song “More Than the World.”
