Senior Javier Valtierrez, who is also known as Javi, can be often seen wearing his red headphones and a hat. Music is something that Valtierrez is very passionate about.
“(Genres he likes include) hip-hop, classic rock and roll”, Valtierrez said. He listens to music by streaming it on platforms like Youtube, Spotify, Pandora.
Fashion is another interest Valtierrez has. Although some people have inspirations for how they dress, Valtierrez doesn’t. He likes to look presentable but also comfortable. He loves to wear black pants and either a sweatshirt or a graphic tee. He also wears a hat that matches his outfits as well as his shoes. Sometimes people wake up and have their outfit picked out, but for Valtierrez, it’s different.
“Some days it depends on my mood,” Javier said.
Not only does his friends see his sense style but they also see that he can have strong bonds with many people he is around. One of these friends includes senior David Fuentes, who became friends with Valtierrez in elementary school. Fuentes and Valtierrez’s friendship started when Fuentes moved from All Saints Catholic School to Clay Lamberton, and they kind of just clicked when they met.
“Javier is just very enjoyable to talk to and he just listens when you talk to him. It’s not like he doesn’t care, he likes to talk to people,” Fuentes said.
Valtierrez has other interests outside of school as well which includes having pets. One is a chihuahua and the other one is a german shepherd. He is also in FFA. Valtierrez has been in soccer before he showed a lot of interest in sports during PE with PE teacher Jeremey Mercer.
“I have had Javi in class many times, and one of the things I really appreciate is that he’s very competitive. He likes to keep things light. He likes to talk smack, but we certainly have a lot of fun when we compete against each other in class,” Mercer said.
A lot of teachers like having their students around, but sometimes some students make an impact on the teacher themselves. One thing that Mercer likes is when he is competitive. Mercer says it’s a pleasure to have him around and he is polite to teachers and knows right from wrong.
“I would say I am proud of him for his consistency and his demeanor. I think he’s a mature student and has a good mixture of doing the right thing and also having fun while also being respectful to everyone he’s around. I think people appreciate the way he carries himself,” Mercer said.
