With graduation quickly approaching, the senior class has recently gotten their cap and gowns for their important day. With this, some students are left to wonder exactly how the distribution process works.
“The graduating class is notified in January when the cap, gown, tassel, and yard sign distribution will be. It’s a great way for Mr. Bednarek to get the students together and go through all the ‘senior things’ they need to know and be reminded of as they finish their last few weeks before graduation,” secretary Laura Sobieski said.
Ordering the set is an effortless process for the students; the only information needed being the student’s weight and height. After getting that measured, the only thing left to do is fill out an order form.
One fun thing about graduation is the opportunity to be able to decorate the cap. Some seniors already have an idea of what they want, but some are still on the fence about their design.
“I haven’t decided yet. I’m probably going to do what my friends do, so if we are decorating them, we will do it together and make a hangout of it. I’ll probably do something on the cap like ‘UW-La Crosse’ because that’s where I’m going, or write ‘2026’ on it,” senior Lillian Johnson said. “I’ll do a little something on it, but not a ton.”
Taking these final steps toward graduation can evoke a lot of different emotions in seniors.
“It was kind of bittersweet. It was exciting but also scary because it’s like ‘I’m graduating in two weeks,’” senior Keira LaSure said
Administration also ordered college and workforce yard signs for seniors to put their signature on, based on what they plan on doing after graduation.
“The graduation of 2020 had to be done differently because of COVID restrictions. Yard signs were a great way of doing something new and special for those graduating students,” Sobieski said. “Since then, Mr. Bednarek has added the post-secondary yard signs (signed by students) to be displayed in front of the high school in addition to the individual sign each student receives. The Berlin Journal also offers personalized signs that families can buy.”
