The volleyball team wore their pink jerseys for every game in October. On Oct.15 the team celebrated their breast cancer awareness game and decorated the gym in pink. They also had their senior night celebration.
“We recognize the fight against breast cancer that so many people face. It gives a nod to the DIG PINK program that USA volleyball and so many others participate in. But, we also want to give support for those who have fought cancer in any form,” Head Coach Eydie Reiser said.
The team set out a donation box for families in need. The money received is given to families in need that are close to the team. They do not always disclose who the family is for their privacy.
“We decorated the gym for the game, (and) the students’ theme was to wear pink,” senior Samantha Bartels said.
All the seniors on the team have participated in pink out all four years.
“We like doing the pink out because it helps people who have breast cancer and it also gives the game a bigger purpose,” senior Claire Sobiskei said.
To celebrate senior night the juniors made gift baskets for their senior teammates gift baskets, Coach Reiser gave the seniors a speech before their game started, and the seniors moms each got their daughters a pink rose for breast cancer awareness. The seniors also made posters of pictures of them playing from when their love for this sport first started up until now.
“My favorite part about being on a team is building a relationship with people that you don’t see every day,” Sobieski said.
