Jacob Jumbeck is a substitute teacher at Berlin High School, but Jumbeck’s real passion is coaching. He has helped coach with cross country, track and field, and was the JV2 basketball coach this past season.
“Getting a teaching job here would be ideal so I could continue to work and coach in this district,” Jumbeck said.
Jumbeck has been at BHS for two years now. He started student teaching as a PE intern and has since become a substitute and coach.
“I like being a substitute teacher; I enjoy helping out the district and seeing the many students and teachers that I have created great relationships with,” Jumbeck said.
Jumbeck received his bachelor’s degree in physical education, and will be receiving his master’s degree in Sports Management this May. Jumbeck has been going to college for six years now.
“Being an athlete myself, I knew I wanted to share my knowledge and pass along my passion for running and basketball. With the relationships I’ve gained with students here, being able to coach them was a no brainer for me. It has been a lot of fun, and I have enjoyed getting to share in their many successes,” Jumbeck said.
Jumbeck has volunteered to help coach track with Coach Joe Stellmacher.
“Mr. Jumbeck has a great head on his shoulders. He will have a great career in education and coaching if that is the path he decides to ultimately take,” Stellmacher said.
Jumbeck is the first student teacher that has coached with BHS.
“Mr. Jumbeck is the G.O.A.T and he’s done a really great job with the track team,” sophomore Ray Daubner said.
With the financial struggles that BHS is facing, Jumbeck wants to stay at BHS as a coach. However, that might not be possible so he might explore teaching at Ripon college.
“Coaching has been a natural next step for me, and I very much appreciate the opportunities I’ve had here in Berlin. We have a lot of incredible coaches here, and I’m grateful to have learned so much from them,” Jumbeck said.
